Dear patrons,
As some of you may have already heard, the Somerville Theatre Building and Capitol Theatre Building were recently put on the market.
In mid-2025, CSB Theatres, Inc. took over the operations of the Somerville Theatre, Capitol Theatre, and the Crystal Ballroom. We own these businesses, but not the larger buildings that house them and many additional tenants.
The building owner, whose family has owned these buildings for decades, has decided to retire.
While the uncertainty surrounding a sale is unnerving for everyone who treasures these places, and especially for those who rely on them for their livelihoods, we’re cautiously optimistic about the future.
With multi-year lease agreements in place, we are confident that little will change for us in the short term. That, coupled with our steadfast commitment to our communities of Somerville and Arlington, and their unwavering support of these local institutions, makes us hopeful for what comes next.
We are also working behind the scenes to ensure the future of these businesses. We don’t have all the details yet but hope to have more soon.
